It's that time of year again and I've decided to put up a new, not-so-festive holiday banner. As I was drawing it, I was patting myself on the back for how clever the idea was. It was so clever, in fact, that someone beat me to it. I was looking for Ghostbuster reference when I stumbled across a description of an episode of THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS in which the gang goes back in time and unwittingly "bust" the ghosts visiting Scrooge on Christmas Eve. I was having so much fun with it that I said, "screw it" and finished it anyway. I hope you like it.
Oh, and happy *@#%ing holidays.

I actually just watched that episode not that long ago! they released one volume of the show 'officially' on dvd which i swept up right away. for all it's cheese it was a really fun show.

Josh, I don't exactly hate them (I love Thanksgiving, in fact.) but I dislike the stress and tension associated with Christmas. Our economy has become so dependent on the Christmas shopping season that it's all you hear about from about early October until mid-January. It's taken all the fun out of just being with family and away from work. The pressure to get "the perfect gift" is relentless anymore. I know this is all funny coming from an advertising guy, but it's how I feel. Plus, I don't like Christmas infringing on Halloween! :)
We've had two local radio stations playing Christmas music since November 1st. My wife has been making fun of me for not wanting to listen to those stations til the day after Thanksgiving.
The new banner looks great. Like Mike, I remember that episode from my childhood. It was a pretty good cartoon.
On early promotion of holidays, I was in Wal-Mart last night and noticed some "Twilight Saga Valentine Heart Candies" out on one of the shelves.
ha! dude--that banner is awesome and wonderful for all the right reasons!
i, too, saw that episode not long ago--okay, maybe a year ago--and it's fluff. it definitely doesn't have the same tone that you bring to it in just one panel!! theirs was wacky hi-jinks! yours get into the spectral aspect of the whole thing--the true scariness of it! a chirstimas carol was a horror story, gang! i think they've diluted that over the years, but scrooge --and the reader--were terrified back then. i dig this the most and think that you've nailed what they missed...
but that's just me--i love the horror!
I love your banner. And yeah -- it's way scarier than anything on that cartoon show. (You know, I think Courage the Cowardly Dog and Power Puff Girls have the only cartoon episodes that have actually ever scared me.)
And I agree with you, Matt, about the holidays.
I think it is an inspired idea and since I saw it here first, you get all the credit in my book.
As the years have gone by, we have cut back on the gift giving amongst the adults as the gift of "not having to slog through the stores trying to find that "perfect gift" is a much better present than anything available at the mall.
As for Christmas infringing on Halloween, I'm with you on that my friend. They really do rush the season so that I have to actively avoid the stores until after Thanksgiving just so I am not Holi-Dazed by December.
Just remembering Mike, and wanted to stop by and send you happy holidays to you and your people. I love that banner! I agree with you on that commercial view of christmas... i dont like it... and dont have the spirit of what christmas is all about.
