More Mike

I had originally set this evening aside to play the new STARCRAFT II game that came out today. Unfortunately (or not, I suppose) I discovered, once I took it upstairs to my office, that my computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. Looks like I'll be paying a little visit to the Apple Store this weekend for a much-needed software update. I'm not really disappointed, though. I have other things that I should be doing and, remembering how many hours I've wasted playing the original STARCRAFT over the last 10 years or so, I'm probably better off.

I've got my design for the PROJECT ROOFTOP Captain America contest almost nailed down. I don't really think it's a winner but I like it. So I'll be drawing that up in the next couple of days. I'm also moving right along on the fourth chapter of HAND ME DOWN HORROR. And with Todd's announcement that PERHAPANAUTS is going to be back on the schedule, I've got to finish my last three pages of Christian's and my backup story. I'm a little ashamed that I let it sit this long, hiatus or not. An obligation is an obligation.

Anyway, that's all for now. Once I realized I wasn't going to be locking horns with the Protoss and Zerg tonight, I remembered I needed to post the remainder of Mike's "secret stash" of TELLOS sketches that Suzanne and I found in the garage. Looking these over, it still amazes me what a gifted cartoonist he was. As much as I loved that he was in comics, I think he may have missed his calling as an animator or even director of animated films. I know he would have loved it and I think he would have been one of the greats. And I wish to hell he was here to post them himself.

Here they are, folks. Enjoy.

Later.

they make it so easy to imagine jarek and koj and serra coming to life in an animated movie.

Incredible how Mike's work is so timeless. It will probably always look fresh. Thank you for sharing.

Matt, you know there's a delete button for the spambots, right? You just sign in, and there's a little tiny trash can visible next to the comment. If you click on delete, there's an option to "remove forever" I think you might want this one. ;-) As you know, I have been plagued by the 'bots myself, so I know a little about this.

Best,
Rich

Thank you for sharing these Matt! I also must say that your Deadman from last weeks post looks fantastic!

Wow. Thank you, Sam. I appreciate the compliment. I also found another piece of Mike's that he drew for me in college, before he broke into comics. I'll be posting that soon.

Rich, yeah. I know about the trash can icon. It just gets to be such a pain. It seems like the more you delete them, or report them to blogger.com, the more persistent they become. I'd rather just scream at my monitor.

I think Rich's comment is best--his work is timeless. And beautiful in spirit. And cool. (Couldn't help myself).

Thanks for sharing these Matt.

Man what a find for you Matt. Mike's work was just fun (Rich said it best, though, it IS timeless).

I'm pretty intrigued by that wizard in your last post. He didn't even make the back of Tellos Colossal.

How's Starcraft II? I was pretty addicted to the first one in college. For Aiur!

Adam, I don't think that wizard was intended for Tellos.

Starcraft 2, for me, was a bust. While I have a pretty smokin' Mac at home, my OS was a few versions too old. I upgraded only to find out my video card was not compatible with the game. Some problem with nVidias and the new Mac OS. Works great for everything but Starcraft 2. Go figure. I'm not dropping another 200 bucks just to play a game. I'm going to see if it will work on my work computer. All my friends who bought it have been enjoying the heck out of it, though. (Although one of them said the much-enhanced graphics has take a bit of the charm out of it.)
